About Julia

Julia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW, LICSW) in private practice in the town of Vienna, Virginia.

Julia always knew that she was meant to pursue a helping profession. A native of the rural community of Washington, Virginia, Julia earned her B.S. in Psychology and Theatre & Dance from James Madison University. She earned her M.S. in Clinical Social Work from Columbia University. Throughout her training, Julia worked with individuals in addictions recovery, as well as patients and families in the trauma and surgical ICUs at a level 1 trauma center.

Early in her career, Julia worked at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center as clinical social worker for patients and families in the ICU, following stroke and other brain trauma. She counseled patients and families at Georgetown University Hospital from many years, and was an integral member of the Palliative Care consult service during that time, with a particular focus on individuals and families with neurological disorders, cancer, and autoimmune illnesses.

Julia specializes in treatment for adults, adolescents, couples and families with grief, loss, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, chronic pain, life transitions, and existential concerns. She welcomes clients from all faiths, cultures, gender and sexual orientations to her practice.

Julia lives in Vienna with her husband, sons, and two dogs, Androo and Lucy, who sometimes accompany her to therapy.

Clinical Training and Modalities:

Julia has advanced training in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and has completed a fellowship in Palliative and End of Life Care from Smith College.

Julia has additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) , Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) couple therapy (IFS for Couples), Narrative Therapy, Dignity Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique/Tapping, and Motivational Interviewing.
