Chronic Pain

"You suppose you are the trouble, but you are really the cure. You suppose that you are the lock on the door, but you are the key that opens it."

-Rumi

Pain is a powerful word that triggers powerful feelings. If you are one of the millions of people who struggle with chronic pain, you are not alone. It is normal to feel fear, helplessness, panic, anger and even grief throughout your experience of pain. Maybe you have given up hope that your pain can improve, and doubt that pain will ever become less of an authority in your life. Perhaps you have tried to seek help from medical providers, but have not found the attention and understanding you need, let alone pain relief. Perhaps support from your loved ones is wearing thin, or that medication alone is no longer effective.

It is so important to find providers who understand the nature of pain, and have the tools to help you develop a deeper relationship with your individual experience of pain. I am a therapist who will take your individual needs, beliefs, personality, and experience into account as we work to uncover and fit together the puzzle and unresolved trauma of your pain. My style of therapy is curious, somatic, and uses the mind/body connection to address, target, and alleviate pain.

Research has shown that Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy has had positive effects on patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), reducing pain and symptoms of depression, while improving physical function and self-compassion. Read more about IFS for pain here.
